Every day, small British charities are working to save lives.

Their commitment and passion is helping to reduce poverty around the world.

This Conservative Government wants to make it easier for those charities to access UK aid which will make a huge difference in their ability to deliver on the frontline.

The Secretary of State for International Development, Alok Sharma, launched a new funding opportunity for small charities across the country.

The Small Charities Challenge Fund is DFID’s first fund designed specifically for small British charities based in the UK. It provides grants for development organisations with an annual income of £250,000 or less working in some of the world’s poorest countries, to help respond to global challenges such as improving girls’ education, tackling climate change, and promoting access to healthcare in the developing world. Grants of up to £50,000 are available for projects of up to two years.

The successful pilot of this scheme committed £3.5 million to 74 small charities delivering a diverse range of projects, such as waste management and plastics recycling in rural Kenya and supporting women with disabilities to establish sustainable social enterprises in Tanzania.

Small charities can apply to the fund at any time that suits them online here: http://www.ukaiddirect.org/apply/sccf/

The next review date will be Thursday 28 November 2019, so please encourage any small charities you know of to apply.

The commitment from this Government to spend 0.7% of our national income allows us to help the world’s poorest people, and this new fund will give a boost to the many small UK-based charities that provide life-changing support to those in need across the globe.
